Diversity and Equity in the Beauty Industry

beauty

Beauty is a concept that has long been used to measure the worth and satisfaction of a person. However, the standards of beauty differ from society to society and culture to culture. In addition to social and cultural aspects, biological and psychological elements also influence the perception of beauty.

Over the years, the beauty industry has faced challenges related to diversity and equity. While many aspects of the industry are changing, it is not always easy to create a more equitable ecosystem. For instance, Black consumers are often not seen in beauty advertisements or advertisements that are targeted to Black consumers. Therefore, it can be difficult for Black brands to find high-level talent. It is not uncommon for brands to rely on Caucasian or Asian models to speak about beauty.

Having a more diverse ad campaign is one way to increase Black representation in the beauty industry. Increasing the percentage of quality Black beauty products in the marketplace would help equalize Black representation in the US. Moreover, the beauty industry can be a huge opportunity for Black entrepreneurs to create innovative products. If Black brands can address some of the pain points associated with their industry, a fundamental change could occur.

One way to make this happen is to better understand the Black consumer. Research shows that Black consumers are more likely to seek out alternatives to what they are purchasing. They prefer sophisticated discussions with sales associates. By addressing these issues, brands can improve their relationships with Black customers. These improvements can also create substantial economic upside.

One of the most important factors to consider when deciding on a beauty routine is your self-esteem. A large amount of women are under pressure to look beautiful, but are less confident in their abilities. Those who feel they are not attractive should try to boost their confidence by dressing properly and being comfortable with their looks. The goal is to gain the respect and admiration of others. When they look in the mirror, they should see a smile, eyes that are proportionate to their head, and a full lip.

In the 1990s, the trend was for thin and slender figures. Today, the industry is largely defined by hairstyles and skin tone. Despite these changes, a common sense definition of beauty still remains the same: symmetry, age, gender, and colour are all part of the definition. Regardless of the criteria, there is always the possibility of achieving a goal, whether it is to become a more beautiful person, to have more success, or to have a more positive relationship with other people.

Some women may even go as far as to have cosmetic surgery, though this is more expensive than braces. However, the risk of becoming a person deemed attractive can be very harmful to the health of the individual. Attempting to meet beauty standards can be dangerous, and can reduce the individual’s self-esteem.

A person’s inner beauty can break out of the beauty mold and offer the individual a new way of looking at themselves. This can be a powerful facet of power and may increase the individual’s sense of independence.
